The four basic DiSC Personality Test Types are Dominance, influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness.

Each letter attempts to describe a person’s most natural behavioral priorities and tendencies.

 

What Does Each Letter Represent?
Each letter represents a different set of core personality traits. Though everyone is a blend of all four styles, most people tend strongly toward one or two styles, but it’s important to note that we are humans and humans are varied, fluid, and adaptable. So just because you may be categorized as a “D” does not mean that you will not or cannot at times deviate from those traits and show a set of behaviors that may be more widely categorized as an “i” from time to time.

Your DiSC personality type just speaks to what your tendencies may lean towards more often than not. It does not mean that’s all you will display. Let’s explore the four DiSC Personality Test Types and their respective behavior patterns.

disc-dominance-styleThe D Personality Type is a more active, logic-focused personality type. Most often described as dominant, people falling under D will also display more decisiveness and directness. A higher number of leaders have D preferences. They’re self-motivated and display a high level of confidence. They’re also keen problem solvers seeking immediate results. They are motivated by power, authority, winning and success. A challenge for D’s can be that at times they may attempt too much at once, step on the toes of authority figures, and can come off as strong-willed and forceful.

disc-influence-styleThe i Personality Type is an active, more people-oriented bunch. They work best in groups and don’t mind being the center of attention. They can excel at persuading and motivating. They’re enthusiastic & optimistic, able to see the cloudy day as just a day with natural shade to enjoy the outdoors. They are motivated by social recognition, group activities and relationships. Challenges for the i are that they can be talkative and not great listeners, impulsive, and emotional. They may overlook details. They tend more towards popularity and seeking approval than to focusing on actual measurable results.

disc-steadiness-styleThe S Personality Type is considered more moderate-paced and people-oriented. This group is seen to be more steady, stable, and consistent. They are compassionate, predictable, and have a pretty even temperament. They listen well and are great sympathizers. They prefer deeper, closer relationships with people versus many casual acquaintances. They are motivated by opportunities to help, sincere appreciation and cooperation. Challenges for the S include a tendency to fear offending others, being resistant to change, and they tend to avoid conflict rather than dealing with the problem directly.

disc-conscientiousness-styleThe C Personality Type is another more moderate-paced, logic-focused personality type best known for challenging assumptions. They pay attention to the details, are analytical, love to gather data, research, and make a very informed decision with data to back it up. They can be very creative since they often see what others miss and are precise. Challenges for Cs are in them not expressing what they truly feel, especially if it’s negative because they tend to be quiet and reserved. Sometimes it can be hard for them to see the forest for the trees when they get stuck in analysis paralysis.
